Join accomplished artist and instructor, Loriann Signori, for this unique opportunity to study landscape painting while experiencing the rich atmosphere of the lively Renaissance city of Florence and the calm of the hillside town of Fiesole. This workshop is different than any other you've experienced as it's intuitive.

Our job as painters is to understand a place and embody sensitivity. This involves really BEING there, walking, sensing and working with a series of painting exercises that transform your experiences, feelings and observations into a new understanding of the character and atmosphere of place.

The ancients believed that everything is inhabited by its own spirit - the Genius Loci. It's the entity residing in a site and energizing it. Florence and its environs is the perfect place to begin to explore the connection between nature and the spirit of place. Steeped in history and wonder, Italy sings her soul. With a curious eye we will explore our muse.

This workshop is a mix between outdoor discovery and studio exploration. We will paint in various places, create a series of painting and involve ourselves in a written component that will help us know our thoughts. Deeper exploration can happen when you just listen to your heart and allow yourself to be guided by the soul of place.

Since discovery comes from play and not knowing, you will relish in the flow of process and seeing mistakes as opportunities. Be ready for spontaneity, adventure and opening your senses to beauty that is everywhere. In addition, there will be a studio component where you will have opportunity to experience a few days of bringing it all together. The gathered works, photos and written observation will keep you painting for years to come.

In this intensive workshop with Loriann you will work with opening your ability to embrace and translate the Italian landscape into beautiful pastel work. Some experience is necessary and Loriann will help guide you into a deeper understanding of what it means to paint intuitively.

Your accommodation in Fiesole is in a modern apartment a few miles above the excitement of Florence with wonderful views of the Mugello Hills. From there you'll move to Florence - where you'll be in the artisan section which is removed from the hustle and bustle of the popular tourist areas, but still just minutes away from the major landmarks. You'll experience the hilltop breezes of Fiesole and an authentic Florence...welcoming, inspiring, and typically Italian.
