Marla's workshop will take place in the beautiful city of Florence, Italy where past masters of the arts lived and worked. Imagine strolling the same cobblestone streets as did Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Botticelli!

Your home for a week will be in the artisan part of Florence is an ancient historic palace located in the Santo Spirito neighborhood - one of the most charming areas in the Florentine historic center, thanks to its antique and artisan shops and boutiques. You will live in the heart of Florence, paint in the piazza that is just outside your hotel, paint in a beautiful garden and feast on the flavorful food the Italians make so well and much more. This experience is about being immersed in the local Florentine life while you take the time to perfect your painting skills.

Florence has an abundance of subject matter to choose from - the Arno River, gorgeous gardens, a close-up of a flower filled window sill, people, etc. There is something to enchant and inspire every artist! This workshop will be painting-centric, but you’ll have plenty of time to relax and restore and absorb all of the art and inspiration that is Florence - an artist's dream city!

The class size will be kept small to allow for plenty of individual attention from Marla. This workshop is suitable for all levels but some experience with drawing and painting would be helpful.

This is a unique opportunity to study with an accomplished artist and instructor while experiencing the rich atmosphere of this lively Renaissance city that holds nearly a third of the world's art treasures.

"The workshop will include demonstrations where I’ll take you through the painting process step-by step, from choosing a scene to paint, simplifying and composing, thumbnail sketches, blocking in, adding color and orchestrating to a focal point and finally, details and finishing. We will cover all aspects of creating a successful painting including, composition, color theory, aerial perspective, mark-making and much, much more! I’ll give plenty of one-on-one mentoring on site, so you won’t ever be in that frustrated mode! Critiques will be relaxed and fun and will provide thoughtful, actionable advice on how to really improve your paintings.
