SKETCHBOOKING and SMALL WORKS in italy
A Pastel Workshop with Lyn Asselta in Florence/Fiesole
May 14-21, 2020 TUITION: $3600
Spend a week in Florence and Fiesole, ITALY creating both a sketchbook full of memories and a cache of small pastel works that can serve as reference material for larger studio paintings or can stand alone as a framed series.
With an emphasis on portability (less is more when traveling!) we will be working small so we can move about with ease. Lyn will give suggestions prior to the workshop about which supplies to bring along and ways to pack those supplies.
Your art week begins in downtown Florence in the well-loved artisan quarter of San Niccolo. You'll settle in on the day of arrival and enjoy a welcome reception/dinner with fellow artists and Lyn. The painting portion of the workshop will include time each day for sketch booking as well as time to work on your series of small pastel paintings, instructional demos (including a "nocturne" in Fiesole!), and personalized attention at your easel.
After spending time in Florence living like a local, seeing the "real" David by Michelangelo and perfecting your art in the beautiful gardens of Florence, you'll retreat to the peaceful hill town of Fiesole to paint in the Etruscan/Roman ruins and visit the panoramic lookout at the San Francesco monastery.
A day trip to the medieval town of San Gimignano includes lunch at a Chianti winery in the rolling Tuscan countryside. You'll feast on great food and attend a cooking class to add to your knowledge of the simple, but oh! so flavorful cuisine of Tuscany.
Come and be inspired by this Renaissance city with it's beautiful architecture and cobblestone streets where so many of the great artists found their own inspiration.
"Start now to break in a comfy pair of walking shoes, prepare to pack light, and join me on this incredible painting journey. I'll be looking forward to experiencing the grandeur of Florence and the breathtaking views from Fiesole with you!" -Lyn
